Kanji Master – Privacy Policy

Overview

Kanji Master does not collect any personal information itself. The only data that leaves your device is what Google AdMob collects to show ads, and the text you choose to translate in the Translate tab.

This policy covers the Kanji Master Android app (package com.shwehnin.kanjimaster), a JLPT N5–N1 kanji study app published by Kanji Master ("we"). It is effective from 14 October 2026 and applies to everyone who installs or uses the app.

Information we collect

We do not ask for, collect or store your name, email, phone number, location or any account details. There is no sign-up and no server of our own.

Your study data stays on your device and is never sent to us:

Pronunciation audio is produced by your phone's own text-to-speech service; the app does not send that text to us.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

The app shows ads through Google AdMob, and Google — not us — collects data to deliver and measure them. We show banner ads, full-screen ads after some quizzes and flashcard sets, and optional rewarded ads you choose to watch (to hide ads for 2 hours or to retry a quiz question).

To do this, Google may collect:

  • Your device's advertising ID
  • Device information such as model, operating system, language and approximate location from your IP address
  • Ad interactions, such as which ads were shown or tapped
  • Diagnostic data such as crash and performance information from the ads SDK

Google may use this data to show personalized ads where you have allowed it. If you are in a region that requires consent, such as the European Economic Area or the UK, the app asks for it through Google's consent form before personalized ads are shown.

Translation (Google Gemini)

When you use the Translate tab, the text you type or speak is sent through our translation server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) to Google's Gemini API, which returns the translation, furigana and pronunciation.

  • Sent: the text to translate, the language direction and the polite/casual choice.
  • A random installation ID (not linked to your name or account) is used only to limit how often one device can translate.
  • Translation results may be cached on the server for up to 30 days so the same sentence is not translated twice; we keep no log of who sent what.
  • Your translation history and saved (★) translations are stored only on your device.
  • Photo translate: the photo is read on your device (Google ML Kit, offline). The photo itself is never uploaded; only the Japanese text found in it is sent for translation.
  • Conversation mode: speech is turned into text by your phone's speech recognition service, and only that text is sent for translation.

Google may use text sent to the Gemini API to improve its services (see Gemini API Terms). Do not enter passwords, ID numbers or other sensitive personal information into Translate.

Permissions

The app uses internet access to load ads and to translate in the Translate tab; every study feature works offline.

The app does not use your camera, contacts, photos or precise location. Voice input in Translate opens your phone's own speech recognition service; the app itself does not record audio.

Children's privacy

Kanji Master is intended for learners aged 13 and older and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the ads in this app, contact us and we will help you request its removal from Google.

Your choices

You control how your data is used for ads, and you can remove all study data at any time.

  • Turn off personalized ads: Android Settings → Google → Ads → delete or reset your advertising ID.
  • Change ad consent: in the app, Settings → ကြော်ငြာ privacy ဆက်တင် (shown in regions where it is required).
  • Hide ads for a while: watch one optional rewarded ad to turn off banner and full-screen ads for 2 hours.
  • Delete your study data: Android Settings → Apps → Kanji Master → Storage → Clear data, or uninstall the app.

Retention, security and changes

Study data stays on your device until you clear it or uninstall the app; we hold no copy. Data collected by Google is kept under Google's own retention policies.

Ad traffic between the app and Google is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
